Julius Erving also know as Doctor J took basketball by storm in the 70’s and was a superstar, the likes of which had never been seen before in basketball.  Erving was the blue print for Michael Jordan.  Dr. J  not only carried a franchise, but a league, the American Basketball Association (ABA), as well.  The ABA battled the NBA and eventually won membership for 4 ABA teams.  The Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, and San Antonio Spurs trace their roots to the ABA.  Since Dr. J started in the ABA, he doesn’t get his just due because his prime years in the ABA aren’t acknowledged, but basketball historians know about ‘The Doctor.’
